Sarcochilus hillii

(Cockleshell Orchid)

A small epiphyte, this orchid grows readily in sheltered and relatively exposed situations, in dry rainforest (on Hoop Pines, for example), wet sclerophyll forests (on Psychotria species, for example) and wet rainforest (on Fig trunks, for example) – sometimes forming large colonies. In summer it produces a slender, raceme, bearing up to about ten small, white to pale pink, widely-opening flowers, each about 10mm across.
